New Ryan Adams Album this Fall - Cardinals III / IV
If you haven’t noticed, there appears to be a new Ryan Adams (Cardinals) album coming out this fall. Once there were some tour dates laid out, many fans felt that there had to be new material coming along as well. This was confirmed by a few different sources, and one mentioned that it will be titled Cardinals III / IV.
This title may be familiar to some fans. Ryan had mentioned in a post on RAA early this year that the Cardinals were going to Paris to record an album with that same working title. He had also mentioned that this was a true Cardinals album, and that he would be sharing songwriting/lead vocal duty with fellow Cardinal, Neal Casal.
This has some diehard Ryan Adams fans worried as this is venturing into unfamiliar territory. Most don’t want to see their hero lost in the shuffle of a band. I think it’s a little too early to panic. We must remember that Ryan often says things that don’t turn out to be true (boxset, not dating Mandy, etc). At the time he may have wanted to create an album along those lines, but once in the studio things may have changed. We also need to remember that Ryan is a control freak when it comes to the studio. I have a hard time seeing him give up control and letting someone else take the lead.
At the end of the day, it’s way too early to freak out about the content of the new album as we have only been supplied with a title and Ryan’s rambling. At least we have something to talk about, right?
